Previous Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the ex-FBI chief has pleaded not guilty to making false statements to congressional representatives and impeding a lawmaking procedure.
His lawyer submitted the response acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday.
His attorney declared he would seek to have the legal matter thrown out for several factors including that his defendant, a critic of former President Trump, was being singled out.
Mr Comey was charged shortly after Trump pressured his attorney general to move forward against him.
In court on mid-week, his attorney Patrick Fitzgerald informed the magistrate they intended to file various petitions to throw out the case before a trial, claiming the government's case was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully assigned to assume control of the case.
The former director's case was originally managed by Erik Siebert, who left his position under pressure from the former president after his investigation into an additional political adversary - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to initiate prosecution.
Mr Comey seemed in positive mood as he came into the courtroom on mid-week, conversing with his attorneys and sharing humor. He was accompanied by his spouse, his wife and child Maureen Comey, a US lawyer who the former government dismissed.
Following the reading to the judge recite his legal protections and the two counts against him in court on mid-week, the defendant was inquired if he understood the charges.
"Absolutely your honour. Thank you," he told the proceedings.
James Comey was the FBI Director from 2013-2017 and was terminated about a few months into the former president's first administration as commander-in-chief. At the period, the director was leading an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between Russia and the election effort.
Throughout his leadership, Mr Comey sparked a backlash from Democrats when he announced just days before the 2016 presidential election that he was probing political contender Clinton's use of a personal email system. Indictments against Hillary Clinton were not filed, leading to disapproval from Republicans as well.
Government attorneys allege the former director lied to US lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September 2020 when he was being interrogated about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They claim he misled the upper house by claiming he had not permitted a person at the FBI to disclose to news outlets data about the FBI investigations.
Prosecutors also charge the defendant of "corruptly endeavoring to influence, hinder and impede" the panel by giving misleading testimony to it.
Via social media the former director published to his social media after he was indicted, he stated he was not guilty and charged Donald Trump of conducting himself like a "tyrant".
"We have been aware for a long time that there are costs to opposing Donald Trump," he said. "We will not live on our bended knee."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "So let's have a legal proceeding."
The accusations against Mr Comey surfaced after the former president shared on online platforms calling for his attorney general, Pam Bondi, take legal action against James Comey and additional individuals.
